BCU 3 Star Awards in both a single and a double bladed discipline (BCU 3 Star Touring Kayak and BCU 3 Star Touring Canoe Awards are acceptable).
↓ Course summary
Tollymore delivers the 4 Star Leader Award Training (Touring) over two days and two evenings. We use the evenings to cover the theory aspects such as planning, safety and equipment. This allows us to maximise the time we can spend on the water developing the skills necessary to lead a group safely in a touring environment.
Half the course will be spent on a river and the other in a moderate inland environment or on sheltered tidal water. Tollymore’ s location lends itself to delivering the touring award with lots of ideal venues within a 20 minute drive to choose from, for example - Upper Bann River, Quoile River, Strangford and Carlingford Lough.
↓ Who is the course for?
The 4 Star Leader Award Training (Touring) is the appropriate qualification to lead general purpose kayaks, touring kayaks, white water kayaks, and open canoes in sheltered tidal waters, sheltered inland waters and moderate inland water. Click here to view full environmental definitions.
Students will be able to avail of all technical kit and equipment from our extensive stores. This does not include personal items such as thermals, fleeces, hats, gloves etc. Students are encouraged to bring their own equipment as we have found that paddlers are often more comfortable using their own. It also gives you the added bonus of getting feedback from the coaches on its suitability. However, we would actively encourage you not to buy before attending the course.
↓ What does my course fee include?
The 4 Star Leader Award Training (Touring) course fee includes kit, equipment, in course transport, coaching, food and accommodation.
Course accommodation will be in shared twin ensuite rooms. If you would prefer not to share a room, single occupancy may be available for an additional charge.

We know that you and many others like minded folk are very keen to get back on track with your plans to attend and complete a range of personal skills training and qualifications in a range of disciplines.
Believe us when we say we are equally keen to get outside with you and help you reach your goals and complete that journey.
How do we know? Because every day we get emails and phone calls asking when will courses resume and with every NI Executive mention of easing of restrictions the emails and phone calls are more frequent……
