↓ Course summary
This course is aimed at paddlers who wish to understand the tools necessary to plan and navigate effectively on open water journeys in advanced sea conditions. By the end of this course students will have planned at least two open crossings.
Skills covered:
The interpretation of sources of relevant information including, maps, charts coastal pilots, tide tables and tidal stream atlases.
The application of this calculating vectors and negotiating open crossings and/or coastlines with no landing zones and/or tide races and overfalls.
Knowledge necessary to navigate in poor visibility or darkness.
A knowledge of the resources necessary to plan a trip in any sea area.
↓ Who is the course for?
Paddlers who wish to put themselves forward for Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Training, or those who wish to build on their existing knowledge.
↓ What equipment do I need to bring?
The course will be both theory and practical based so bring any of your own navigation equipment and resources.
Tollymore will be able to supply all the necessary equipment to participate fully in the course.
Participants are encouraged to bring all personal equipment so they get the opportunity to be coached using the equipment they are most familiar with.
↓ What does my course fee include?
The course fee includes navigation equipment and resources, coaching , lunch, tea/coffee and one of our famous chocolate brownies. The non-residential option (23rd Oct only) does not include lunch, coffee / brownies!

As you are probably aware the current advice from the Northern Ireland Executive, Health Promotion Agency NI and Health & Safety Executive NI, as well as our expert group within Sport NI is that we cannot deliver any face to face courses for our customers including use of the Hot Rock Climbing Wall.
We know that you and many others like minded folk are very keen to get back on track with your plans to attend and complete a range of personal skills training and qualifications in a range of disciplines.
