Must have led a minimum 40 climbs on climbing walls
Must be confident at leading routes at Fr4
Be proficient in the use of climbing walls
Have recorded a minimum of thirty visits to at least three different climbing walls
Additionally have assisted a qualified supervisor on at least fifteen instructed sessions on at least two different walls including a large public facility in a variety of contexts.
Be competently leading on indoor climbing wall
Hold a valid first aid certificate relevant to your work as a climbing wall instructor
↓ Course summary
This course will assess the skills and knowledge covered in CWI training.
The Climbing Wall Instructor course assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. It is ideal for people who work at climbing walls or at venues with permanent or mobile climbing towers. There is also an optional Abseil Module (often run in conjunction with Climbing Wall Instructor training and assessment courses) which is all about supervising abseiling on artificial structures.
The Climbing Wall Instructor qualification does not include the skills and techniques required to teach lead climbing.
This course will assess all or most aspects of the Climbing Wall Instructor Scheme over a 6 hour day.
Candidates will also complete a question paper.

Students should bring and use their own harnesses and basic hardware. Tollymore will provide all other ropes and equipment for candidates and mock students.

Accommodation:
Your course is a one day course, so accommodation is not provided. However, we do have changing rooms, showers and lockers available for your use.
We can offer you a nights' accommodation and breakfast either at the beginning or end of a course for an additional cost. This is a great way to further enhance your time at Tollymore and savour the beautiful majestic setting that the Centre has to offer.
Catering:
Our catering is first class, noted both for the quality and quantity of the food that we provide. Your course is catered, so you will be provided with a packed lunch for the day. You may however wish to bring your own personal snack food for use during the course. You can fill a flask with tea or coffee at the Centre if required.

As you are probably aware the current advice from the Northern Ireland Executive, Health Promotion Agency NI and Health & Safety Executive NI, as well as our expert group within Sport NI is that we cannot deliver any face to face courses for our customers including use of the Hot Rock Climbing Wall.
