Prior to attending the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Assessment, you must have completed the MCI training course and hold the Mountain Leader Award (summer).
You will be asked to submit a comprehensive logbook outlining your experience in relation to the requirements of the scheme, including evidence of leading multi-pitch routes at VS or above, leading others in the hills and mountains of the UK and Ireland.
↓ Course summary
This is a five-day Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Assessment Course covering all the major aspects of the MCI Award scheme.
Whilst the course is based from Tollymore National Outdoor Centre in the Mournes the course will travel to a number of other locations to make the most of varied terrain and allowing for current weather conditions.
The course is staffed by experienced Tollymore staff with a broad base of experience in all aspects of the scheme.
The course commences on the evening of Sunday 9th June 2024.
↓ Who is the course for?
The Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Assessment is for all those who have an interest in instructing all aspects of rock climbing and mountaineering skills in summer conditions in the UK and Ireland.
It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure they are familiar with the syllabus requirements and all assessment pre-requisites prior to attending this course.

For this Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Assessment please bring any of your own personal rock climbing / outdoor clothing and kit such as, waterproof jacket and trousers, boots, fleece jacket, hat and gloves, harness and rack, flask, water bottle, Mourne map (1:25,000), guide book, and spare clothes. It’s best to bring plenty of lighter layers and avoid cotton if possible as it offers little heat and takes ages to dry out if wet or sweaty.
Tollymore can supply most of the equipment you require for this course but it is preferable to use your own were possible even if it’s just a chance for your instructor to comment on your kit and give advice.
↓ What does my course fee include?
The course fee includes kit, equipment, in course transport, coaching, food and accommodation.
Course accommodation will be in shared twin ensuite rooms. If you would prefer not to share a room, single occupancy may be available for an additional charge.
