What you will Learn
The Discipline Specific Training focuses on the ‘how’ to coach and ‘where’ to coach the technical and tactical discipline
specific skills.
The course will help you plan and deliver quality, safe, enjoyable, progressive coaching sessions in a sheltered environment,
and you’ll explore specifics to help you coach some typical athletes/learners relevant to you/your discipline.

This two-day training course, focuses on
the ‘Where’ to coach, i.e. how to get the
best out of the coaching venue, and
‘what’ to coach, the boat handling and
tactical skills used in a sheltered
environment. Giving you the opportunity
to practically build on the knowledge you
gained on your Core training.
You can choose to be a Sheltered water
kayak coach or a Sheltered water canoe
coach or both Sheltered water
canoe/kayak coach for your pathway. If

↓ Who is the course for?
This course is for those who wish to lead other riders within the terrain remit described above.
Trail Cycle Leader (TCL) Award Courses at Tollymore are delivered by registered Mountain Bike Leader Award (MBLA) Tutors. The MBLA scheme is recognised as a model of best practise throughout the UK and Ireland. MBLA Registration and Cycling Ireland Membership fees are additional to the course costs.
↓ What equipment do I need to bring?
All essential equipment is available from our extensive stores. We advise you not to rush out and buy kit for
the course, but use it as a chance to find out what would best suit your needs. If you do have any of your own
equipment do bring it along.
Our staff will be required to vet for suitability equipment such as buoyancy aids and helmets.
You should bring the following personal equipment with you:
vacuum flask, water bottle, Snackfood, Our equipment stores are by far the best around with a stock of over 100 boats/ boards from across the range of models, so there are plenty to choose from! If you’re thinking of buying a boat or board come along and ‘try before you buy’ and also get unbiased expert advice from our staff on the most suitable equipment for you. Again, participants are encouraged to bring any of their own personal equipment so they get the opportunity to be coached using the equipment they are most familiar with.
Personal paddling equipment and any paddling games / props
Notebook and pen.
Extra thermal tops, warm outdoor wear (fleece is ideal), as there will be bank based discussions
Hat, gloves,
Towel and toiletries,
small first aid kit/ personal medication,

Food and accommodation, equipment, in-course transport and instruction.
Current situation
As you are probably aware the current advice from the Northern Ireland Executive, Health Promotion Agency NI and Health & Safety Executive NI, as well as our expert group within Sport NI is that we cannot deliver any face to face courses for our customers including use of the Hot Rock Climbing Wall.
We know that you and many others like minded folk are very keen to get back on track with your plans to attend and complete a range of personal skills training and qualifications in a range of disciplines.
